What is the currency converter?
This currency converter changes an amount from one currency into another using exchange rates that you control. Unlike converters that call a live API, it ships with a static, editable rate table so it keeps working offline and never sends your amounts to a third party. You update the rates whenever you like — a good fit for quick estimates, travel budgeting or embedding into a privacy-first workflow.
How it works
All rates are stored relative to a single base currency (USD). To convert from currency A to currency B, the tool first converts the amount into the base (amount ÷ rateA) and then into the target (× rateB). Because every currency is anchored to the same base, any pair can be derived from the table without listing every combination. You can edit any rate in the table; your changes are saved in your browser's local storage so they persist between visits.
Worked example
Say the table lists 1 USD = 0.92 EUR and 1 USD = 83 INR. To convert 100 EUR to INR, the tool divides by the EUR rate (100 ÷ 0.92 = 108.70 USD) and multiplies by the INR rate (108.70 × 83 = 9,022 INR). If you later change the EUR rate to 0.90, the same conversion updates instantly to about 9,222 INR.
Frequently asked questions
Are the exchange rates live?
No. Rates are static and fully under your control. This keeps the tool offline and private; update the table whenever you need current figures.
How do I update a rate?
Edit the value directly in the rate table. Your edits are stored locally in your browser and reused on your next visit.
Which base currency is used?
All rates are expressed per 1 US dollar. Conversions between any two currencies are derived through that common base.
Can I reset the rates?
Yes. A reset button restores the built-in default table, discarding your local edits.
Is this suitable for financial trading?
No. Because rates are manual, use it for estimates only. For trading or accounting, rely on a regulated live data source.
